How we govern our church
The Session governs the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church. This group of people are elected by the congregation and they then serve for three years in three different classes. In this way we always run on a cycle of three years. Every year 1/3 of the session goes off and a new 1/3 comes on. All of the session is voted upon by the congregation at their annual meeting.
The Clerk of the Session is responsible for keeping all minutes and records of the church.
Following the Session are then the Deacons. Deacons serve also for three years and also run on a three year rotating cycle; 1/3 off each year and 1/3 new people on. They are elected to lead the programs for visitation of the sick and the needy, for example.
After the Session and the Deacons then comes the church staff, both paid and volunteer. This would include the Pastor, who is the “Sheppard of the Flock” in a sense; the Music Director, Office Administrator, Sexton, and any others that would be considered staff of the church.
Finally, we have The Congregation. *The power of the church really rests with the congregation as they elect or hire each level of administration of the church and allow empowerment of the same.
